Hello,

I have been living in Finland for a while now and I bought a new car I decided to import in Finland. It is a Lotus Elise S1 from 1998. I have been having a hard time trying to figure out how much import taxes i will have to pay.

I learned from a friend that there is only 1 Elise registered in Finland and that is from 62 so that is no use. Also the tuuli site shows no elise imports in all the history available. Any ideas or clues on where i could get more information or should i just wait untill i arrive with it with the boat and then 'bend over' for the taxman...

This is it and will be in finland from mid may onwards on finnish license.. (only the wheels will be black)

Dont worry my finnish is alot worse then your enlgish Rolling Eyes

I am not going to do much to it for now. It has a Janspeed sport exhaust and a K&N air filter. All the silver bits in the pics (fuel cap and rims) are being powdercoated black at the moment. Maybe later a bit of striping and that is most likely it (for now). Maybe in the future an engine upgrade to a Honda or an Audi engine and Nitro suspension

Woah Man! Nice car you have there, How much this beaty will cost to you? Well anyways aren't the import taxes something like half of the cars price or something. You should go and ask things out from police i think?

About the taxes, I'm not sure but, I think you'll get some help if you call to the Finnish customs and ask about it. Don't suprise if you'll have to pay a lot of money for it.

But that is a very nice car, I like it because it's almost like "unique" in Finland and of course british Smile

Thanks for your advice. I already called the customs and they said they cant give me a guestimate due to the fact that it will be the only one in Finland.

The import taxes are 29% of the value + VAT. The tricky part is that the 29% is based on the value the taxoffice gives to the car. Aka: What they think it can sell for here in Finland. Since there is no recorded sales of this they will come up with a figure. That is the hard part. I am hoping it wont be to bad since it only has a 1.8 engine and absolutely no luxuries (ABS, powersteering, electric windows, Aircon etc). But it basically is up to the mood of the taxman that day. I hope his wife was nice to him the night before Twisted Evil

It indeed weighs very little. It is only 713 kilo's and has 130bhp. It handles like a go-cart Smile

But you should remember that you are in finland, everything is exensive, And tax officers are bastards even their nice day. When they hear that your car is only of his kind in finland ... I can't assure what they will do. If get this to finnish license plates, Keep it on save and don't leave to anywhere. I am sure that it will get some vandalism on it.

I have been living in Helsinki for almost 2 years now and i found out everything is expensive here yes Wink

O and i have already rented an autotalli so it should be safe..

I understand finnish to a certain extent. Sadly i have to admit that esspecially my written finnish it is pretty bad. Hence me posting in english altho i understood the registration in finnish..

This car will be in parked in Helsinki. But ofcourse i will be driving it outside of Helsinki since that is where the roads are that give this car just
